Three Kenya Power employees in Mombasa have tested positive for COVID-19, the company’s Managing Director Bernard Ngugi has said.

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Tuesday, Ngugi said three employees are currently receiving medical attention in an isolation facility.

“The three employees have been isolated and are under medical treatment and psychological support as they recover,” said Ngugi.

Ngugi said that the company has responded to the incident swiftly adding that all the employees on the first floor of Kenya Power House in Mombasa have already been tested for the virus and facilitated to isolate.

“Employees working on the first floor of the building and banking hall have also been requested to stay home for one week as they await results and health check clearance before resuming duty,” he said. The entire building has also been fumigated.

This comes even as Kenya reported 72 more COVID-19 cases on Tuesday taking the country’s tally to 2,093.

Seventy one (71) Kenyans have lost their lives to the disease.

Last week, the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) closed its Mvita Branch in Mombasa after one of its employees tested positive for the virus.

The branch was closed temporarily following the approval of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

“Our priority remains safeguarding the safety and well-being of all our staff, customers and other stakeholders during these difficult times.” said KCB Group Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director Joshua Oigara.
