Ethics and Anti Corruption Comission detectives have arrested former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero again over irregular payment of Ksh68 million to a law firm during his stint as county boss.

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered for his arrest after establishing that there is sufficient evidence to charge the former governor alongside several former county officials over payment of the funds to the law firm identified as Wachira Mwangi, Mburu and Co Advocates.

According to Haji, EACC initially submitted the duplicate inquiry on December 11, 2018 and upon perusal and consideration of the evidence, a number of gaps were identified that required to be filled before charges could be filed in court.

“EACC undertook further investigations and resubmitted the file on April 4, 2019,” said the DPP in a statement “Once again the file was reviewed and found that there is sufficient evidence to support criminal charges,”

Former Nairobi Chief of Staff George Wainaina and former Acting Director of Legal Affairs Joshua Owuor are also set to be prosecuted.
