Kenya Rugby 7s fans can already start smiling and looking forward to a return of the good times after the Kenya Rugby Union reached an agreement with striking senior players.

On their official website, KRU confirmed that they had a meeting with all the senior players and agreed on a return to work formula for the remaining part of the season. Shujaa have already played in four legs in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens series.

Shujaa have been recording poor performances in the first part of the season and are currently sitting 14th on the HSBC standings, two spots shy of the relegation zone. The poor performance has been heavily associated with the boycott of the senior players as coach Paul ‘Pau’ Murunga has been forced to field an inexperienced squad.

In Hamilton, Shujaa had given fans a little hope by reaching the challenge cup finals even though they were thrashed 36-7 by England. In Sydney and Vancouver, Shujaa showed their worst form bowing out of the competition without a win and with only a point to show for their work. They gave a somewhat better performance in Vegas but unfortunately lost to Spain in the challenge cup semi finals.

The coach happily received the news of the return of the players welcoming them all back to the squad.

“The boys are welcome in the team. They will be given an equal opportunity to train and a chance to be selected to play in the remaining legs. We still retain all the players that have been training and playing in the last 6 legs of the 2018/2019 season.” Said Paul Murunga, the Shujaa Head Coach.

The KRU Chief Executive Officer, Sylvia Kamau, echoed the Coach’s words and stated that the Union is glad that both parties have come to an agreement with four legs left in the 2018/2019 HSBC World Sevens Series season.

The team resumes training on Tuesday and the final squad will travel on April 31 for the Hong Kong7s where they are in Pool C alongside Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia.
