Hot in the heels of a row pitting President Uhuru Kenyatta and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and his Bahati counterpart Kimani Ngunjiri over development projects in the Central Kenya region, a section of politicians, majority who lost to their competitors in the last elections have leapt to the defence of the head of state accusing the dissenting voices of attempting to scuttle the handshake between Uhuru and Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a press conference, the leaders led by former Nairobi and Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirants Peter Kenneth and Martha Karua defended President Kenyatta’s track record in the region describing the Big Four Agenda as an initiative that will benefit all Kenyans.

The leaders said that from the time he got into power in 2013, Uhuru has committed himself to doing everything in his power to better the lives of Kenyans across the country.

“It is our considered opinion that some unpatriotic leaders are bent on sabotaging the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) for selfish personal gain. This we shall not allow,” said the leaders.

The leaders want politicians engaging in succession politics to tone down claiming that their remarks have plunged the country into an unnecessary political mood.

“We call on all leaders of goodwill to adhere to President Kenyatta’s directive to concentrate on service delivery. The country has bigger issues to deal with outside succession politics,” added the former elected leaders.

Further, they claimed that the leaders attacking the president are agents of individuals that are being prosecuted for corrupt dealings.

“We are aware that some of the leaders are keen on sabotaging the war on corruption by creating side issues and trying to politicise the war on corruption,” added the leaders.
