Police have launched a manhunt for Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri and are seeking to arrest him and charge him with incitement.

The MP had earlier led a number of protestors to Nakuru Town from the Railways grounds clad in a white t-shirt printed ‘Mimi Ni Mshenzi, Je Wewe?’ and branded ‘Team Washenzi’.

Ngunjiri, a staunch Deputy President William Ruto ally started the ‘Mshenzi Movement’ in protest of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s response to criticism from Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria over claims of underdevelopment in the Central Kenya region which have since caused a political storm.

The outspoken MP described the movement as a vehicle tailored to pile pressure on Uhuru to honour his 2013 pre-election pact to support Ruto once he completes the agreed on two terms in office.

On Sunday, Ngunjiri blasted Uhuru and threatened to mobilise his fellow MPs to impeach the head of state over what he described as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s failure to rein in on his ally David Murathe who had vowed to move to the Supreme Court to block Ruto from ascending to power in 2022 during the burial of Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju Kefa Oduor’s brother in Siaya on January 5.

“If Kenyatta is tired of leading this country he should immediately call for fresh elections so that we can end this political rumour-mongering or we will impeach him,” said Ngunjiri.

The MP further told Uhuru to decamp to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is he wasn’t fully committed to the Jubilee Party cause.

Kuria’s remarks made at a New Year Party at Thika Stadium last week have dominated the political grapevine and were further fuelled by President Kenyatta’s ‘washenzi’ remark.

While launching the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa County on Monday, Uhuru fired back at the criticism by saying, “”Every region in the country deserves development regardless of its voting patterns and the region that the leader initiating the development comes from kwa hivyo hao washenzi muwachane na mimi (those idiots should let me be).

Shortly after the president commented, Moses Kuria fired right back at the president saying, “H.E the President is 100% right. He is spot on. We need development in every corner of this country. It is in that spirit and in line with the President’s position that I believe Mt Kenya region also deserves development just like any other region. Right now it’s not happening.”

However the Mt Kenya leadership caucus convened by Nominated MP Cecily Mbarire in a statement released on Tuesday defended the President against the underdevelopment jibe saying that it is pleased with the president’s development record in the region.

“As leaders from the Mt Kenya region we appreciate the work done by the Jubilee administration in our region since 2013. We are however aware that there is still more to be done as per the expectations of our people. We wish to state that President Uhuru Kenyatta deserves utmost respect from all party members,”
