The trial of the National Youth Service II corruption suspects including former Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Lilian Omollo and former NYS Director General Richard Ndubai alongside others has began.

Ms. Omollo and Ndubai are set to be tried for the infamous theft of Ksh226 million at the National Youth Service (NYS).

Anti-Corruption Court Magistrate Douglas Ogoti will be presiding over the case after he on Friday October 26 rejected an application by the accused persons to have him recuse himself.

The judge dismissed the application describing it as an attempt to delay the trial.

“Filing an application for recusal five months after a ruling, seven days before the case hearing starts is evidence of a very well-orchestrated scheme by applicants to throw spanners into the case and forestall it,” the judge ruled.

Out of 10 files opened by the Office of The Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the judge will be handling four.

The hearing will go on until March 2019 after the court consolidated the former 10 cases into one.

The prosecution which has lined up 43 witnesses will be employing different strategies to demonstrate how the funds were stolen including use of video clips, flip charts and info-graphics.
