Fake money makers of Kisii day in court

Four men were yesterday charged in Ogembo court for being in possession of special papers used to make US dollars and Kenyan currency notes.

Herbert Akuma, David Barongo, Haron Onduro and Danvas Bisera appeared before resident magistrate Julius Mutai charged with being in possession of papers of forgery contrary to section 36(a) of the Penal Code.

The court heard that four were nabbed by police officers from Nyamache Police station at Gionseri trading centre, Nyamache Sub-County in Kisii county.

They were charged that without lawful authority, permission or excuse, knowingly had in their possession papers intended to resemble and pass as special papers used in making fake currency notes of 110,000 US Dollars and 600,000 of 1,000 Kenyan currency notes.

Three of the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on a bond of Ksh400, 000 or surety of similar amount or pay a cash bail of Ksh200,000. Their case will be mentioned on 17th October while hearing commences on January 24, 2019.

One of them, Herbert Akuma, pleaded guilty to the charges and the court ordered he appears before it on 8th October, 2018 after the prosecution has compiled facts on the evidence of the case for a ruling to be passed.
