Crown Paints Kenya Plc Net Profit grew 11.2% to KSh 486 million. Although pre-tax profit increased 25.5%, Net Profit rose only 11.2% because tax expense increased 82% to KSh 202million. So the underlying operating performance was considerably stronger than the headline Net Profit growth suggests.

Crown Paints delivered a solid first half, with the strongest signal coming from profitability growing faster than revenue.

Revenue increased 13.1% to KSh 8.3billion, while half-year pre-tax profit rose 25.5% to KSh 688million. This indicates that the business is getting more profit from each shilling of sales.

Revenue growth was driven by higher sales volumes and stronger demand. This is important because the improvement is not simply coming from price increases; Crown Paints is moving more products. The firm operates across decorative, automotive, industrial and other coatings, with a broad dealer and distribution network across Kenya and the region.

Crown Paints Numbers and What they mean

Pre-tax profit was up 25.5% to KSh 688 million. This is the standout number. Pre-tax profit grew almost twice as fast as revenue, pointing to improved operating leverage and cost efficiency.

“In other words, Crown Paints is converting its additional sales into profit more effectively. This is consistent with the improvement already seen in 2025, when full-year profit increased 74.2%, supported by higher sales and lower costs. Management had also highlighted stable currency and raw-material conditions as supportive factors,” said Dedan Maina-Financial Consultant & Capital Markets Analyst.

Net Profit grew 11.2% to KSh 486million. This is where the results become more nuanced. Although pre-tax profit was up 25.5%, Net Profit increased by only 11.2% because tax expense increased 82% to KSh 202 million.

So the underlying operating performance was considerably stronger than the headline Net Profit growth suggests.

Earnings Per Share(EPS)rose 11.1% to KSh 3.41. EPS growth broadly follows net profit growth. The earnings base is improving, but the increase in taxation has absorbed a significant portion of the operating improvement.

Crown Paints Balance sheet is getting bigger. Total assets increased 19.1% to KSh10.63billion, while equity increased 14.3% to KSh 4.13billion. Current assets grew 22.1% to KSh 7.90 billion, while reserves increased 17.8% to KSh 3.42 billion.

This suggests that Crown is expanding its operating base and building shareholder equity alongside the growth in the business. However, there is an important counterpoint. Net operating cash flow fell 40.9% to KSh 681million. This is the main weakness in the H1 numbers. Crown Paints is reporting higher sales and significantly higher pre-tax profit, but less cash is being generated from operations.

At the same time, current assets increased 22.1%, while current liabilities increased 24.2%. This means that working capital is becoming more important to the growth story. While does not invalidate the earnings growth, it means investors want to see stronger cash conversion in the second half before becoming overly aggressive on the stock. The positive is that closing cash and equivalents increased 69.5% to KSh 1.08Bn, providing liquidity support.

 Crown Paints Dividend

Directors of Crown Paints have not declared any interim dividend. This means the immediate investment case remains primarily about earnings growth and business value creation, rather than near-term income.

Given that Crown resumed dividends in 2025 after returning to profitability, the eventual full-year dividend decision will be worth watching. The H1 results strengthen the operational recovery thesis for Crown Paints.

The key positive is not simply that revenue grew 13%. It is that pre-tax profit grew 25.5%, showing that profitability is expanding faster than the top line. The concern is cash conversion. If earnings continue growing while operating cash flow remains weak, the quality of that earnings growth will require closer scrutiny.

Crown Paints is showing improving operating momentum, but will remain valuation and cash-flow disciplined.
