Sasini Plc, a listed agro-based firmĀ  that deal with tea, coffee, avocado and macadamia nuts, has executed a major change to its board through appointment of Ms Catherine Kawira Bariu as the new Company Secretary with effect from 28th May 2026 following the resignation of Ms Millicent Ngetich.

Ms Ngetich is considered one of the most sought after company secretaries in the business, having held this position in 6 Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE)- listed companies, including Cooperative Bank, Standard Group, Sameer Africa, Nairobi Business Ventures PLC, Sasini PLC, and Shri Krishna Overseas PLC. On March 31, 2026, she officially resigned as NSE Company Secretary, bringing her tenure to a close.

She has also been head of legal at Unilever, Kenya Seed Company, as well as State Counsel at the State Law Office, providing legal advisory services to the government, state corporations, and public institutions. Ngetich holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Moi University and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law (KSL).

She is also a Certified Secretary and an Accredited Governance Auditor.

In January 2025, the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) moved to cap the number of listed firms a company secretary can serve at three.

A notice from Sasini Plc listed Ms Bariu as an accomplished Certified Secretary and Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 10 years’ experience in driving organizational compliance, corporate governance and legal affairs.

Prior to joining Image Registrars, she served as a legal researcher with the Judiciary, where she supported high-level judicial decisions, making thorough legal analysis, governance oversight, performance monitoring and institutional compliance frameworks.

She holds a Master of Law degree on Corporate Governance from the University of Nairobi., Bachelor of a Laws degree from Kenyatta University, a postgraduate diploma in law from Kenya School of Law and a Public Secretary Certification.

Additionally, she is a recognised member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries and the Law Society of Kenya.

Catherine has previously served as Company Secretary to a number of corporates within the private sector, advising on statutory and regulatory compliance, supporting committee and board processes, drafting governance policies and maintaining statutory records and reporting systems.

She has also served at the Capital Markets Authority in the Market Operations Directorate, where she participated in the risk-based supervision, regulatory inspection and compliance assessments.
