Veteran technology executive Phyllis Migwi has announced she will step down as Country General Manager of Google Kenya in February, ending her three-and-a-half-year tenure at the helm of the company’s Kenyan operations.

She announced on her LinkedIn page but did not disclose what her next professional move will be.

Migwi joined Google Kenya in 2022, taking charge during a period of rapid digital adoption in the country. She oversaw the company’s engagement with government, businesses, and developer communities, while identifying opportunities for new digital solutions aligned with customer needs.

Her leadership also focused on promoting diversity and inclusion within the organisation. She supported initiatives aimed at expanding digital skills, helping small and medium-sized enterprises, and strengthening Kenya’s broader digital ecosystem. Under her tenure, Google played a key role in advancing innovation and technology adoption in the region.

Before joining Google, Migwi held senior positions at IBM, including Regional Head of Africa Growth Market for Hybrid Cloud and AI.

She has extensive experience in technology and business development across Africa, Europe, India, and North America, with a focus on strategy, operations, and programme management.

Migwi holds a Master of Business Administration from Hult International Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.

In her farewell message, she said it was time to “pass the baton” to new leadership and expressed confidence that her successor would build on the foundation she established.

Her departure comes at a time when global technology firms are increasingly shaping Kenya’s digital landscape, highlighting the importance of leadership in driving innovation, partnerships, and growth in the country’s tech sector.
