Alliance High School in Kiambu County is set to welcome students back to a significantly improved learning environment following the completion of a new state-of-the-art dining hall ahead of the start of the new school year next week.

In a statement, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo said the modern facility, delivered by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, will soon be commissioned and is designed to elevate the daily experience of students at the institution.

“As students prepare to return for a new school year starting next week, Alliance High School now welcomes them to a soon-to-be commissioned, new, state-of-the-art dining hall,” Omollo said, adding that the project reflects the government’s commitment to improving school infrastructure.

The dining hall, which can accommodate up to 2,400 learners at a time, provides a spacious and comfortable environment aimed at promoting dignity, efficiency and a sense of community during meal times. Omollo said the facility addresses long-standing capacity needs while enhancing the overall welfare of students.

“With seating for 2,400 learners, the facility offers a modern and comfortable environment that promotes dignity, efficiency and community during meal times,” he said.

Beyond improving student welfare, Omollo said the new dining hall plays a strategic role in preparing the school for upcoming education reforms. He noted that the expanded capacity positions Alliance High School to effectively serve a growing student population ahead of the rollout of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum at Senior School level this year.

“The facility expands the school’s capacity in readiness for the implementation of the Competency-Based Education curriculum at Senior School level,” Omollo said, describing the investment as part of broader efforts to ensure the success of education reforms.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that the CBE curriculum delivers meaningful and transformative learning outcomes. “This project underscores the government’s resolve to ensure that CBE delivers a transformative and effective learning experience for all learners,” Omollo said.

The new dining hall is part of a wider push by the government to upgrade learning infrastructure across the country as schools transition into the next phase of the reformed education system.
