Kenya Power has announced that all new electricity connection applications will now be made exclusively through its online portal, marking a major shift in how customers access the service.

The new requirement takes effect this week and means individuals and businesses will no longer submit manual applications at the company’s service centres or banking halls.

Instead, they will use the self-service platform on the Kenya Power website, which can be accessed through computers or mobile devices.

According to the utility company, the change is designed to improve efficiency, enhance customer experience, and speed up turnaround times for new connections.

Kenya Power has received more than 807,000 applications over the last three years, averaging about 269,000 annually.

Company Managing Director and CEO Joseph Siror said the move is a key step in modernising Kenya Power’s operations and improving transparency.

“Digitisation is central to Kenya Power’s transformation agenda, and by streamlining how customers apply for electricity, we are not only improving efficiency but also building a modern utility that is responsive, inclusive, and transparent,” he said.

Siror added that the online system is expected to help curb fraud by reducing interactions with impostors who have previously posed as Kenya Power employees.

“This shift is also a commitment to faster, smarter, and more transparent service for every Kenyan. We have had instances where rogue individuals present themselves as Kenya Power staff, and unsuspecting customers lose money. Through this new system, we are confident that such cases will significantly reduce,” he said.

Adding;

“We are putting the power of access directly into the hands of our customers and we are ready to walk this journey with them.”

To support customers who may need help navigating the digital platform, Kenya Power has deployed Business Development teams across the country.

The company has also adopted a multi-channel digital service approach to ensure convenience and accessibility.

The rollout comes in a year when the power utility surpassed ten million customers. In the financial year ending June 2025, Kenya Power connected 401,848 new customers, contributing an additional 203 gigawatt hours in electricity sales.
