Schneider Electric, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has donated a containerized mobile solar microgrid from its Villaya range to Don Bosco Korr in Marsabit County, Kenya.

Manufactured locally, this solar-powered system generates a minimum of 10-kilowatt peak electricity, sufficient to power critical community infrastructure such as health centers, schools, and technical colleges.

This donation supports Schneider Electric’s Access to Energy Program, which aims to provide sustainable, reliable energy to underserved communities, promoting socio-economic development in the region.

Marsabit County faces significant challenges due to limited access to reliable electricity, particularly in remote areas like Korr. This energy scarcity hinders essential services, including healthcare, education, and vocational training. The Villaya solution addresses these challenges by delivering a scalable, off-grid solar energy system housed in a portable container. Its modular design ensures adaptability to the community’s evolving needs, providing clean and dependable power to enhance healthcare delivery, educational opportunities, and skills development.

The system will power Don Bosco Korr’s health center, ensuring reliable operation of medical equipment, vaccine refrigerators, and nighttime services. By promoting education, it will support primary, secondary  and computer students by powering classrooms and computer lab, creating better learning environments.

This initiative closely aligns with Schneider Electric’s mission to promote sustainability and empower communities through innovative energy solutions.

“We are thrilled to partner with Don Bosco Korr to deliver sustainable energy to this community,” said Ifeanyi Odoh, Country President, Schneider Electric East Africa, during the official handover ceremony. “Our Access to Energy Program is dedicated to closing the energy gap in underserved regions like Marsabit. The Villaya solution not only meets immediate energy needs but also lays the foundation for long-term growth, improved healthcare, and enhanced education.”

“Villaya is designed with flexibility and resilience at its core,” added Ayush Gupta, Access to Energy Business Director at Schneider Electric. “It integrates solar generation, smart energy storage, and intelligent load management into a single, modular platform. This allows communities like Korr to benefit from 24/7 clean energy, even in harsh and remote environments, while also enabling remote monitoring and future scalability.”

While receiving the solution, the Rector, Fr. Eric Owuor of Don Bosco Korr further added, “This solar microgrid is a game-changer for our community. It ensures our health center can operate effectively, our students can learn in well-lit classrooms, and our students in computer centre can train for meaningful careers. Schneider Electric’s support brings hope and opportunity to Korr.”

The Villaya system’s modular design ensures it can adapt to the evolving needs of Korr, providing a long-term, eco-friendly energy solution that Schneider Electric’s mission to promote sustainability and empower communities through innovative energy solutions.
