Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, has pulled out of the 2025 Diamond League Finals in Zurich following an injury setback, just two days before the decisive races. The event is scheduled to take place on August 27 and 28, 2025.

Omanyala announced his withdrawal on social media on Monday, August 25, citing persistent pain in his hip, iliopsoas, and gluteal muscles. The sprinter expressed regret over missing the event but emphasized that his health and recovery are his top priorities.

Despite the disappointment, Omanyala remains hopeful about his participation in the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, set for September 13 to 21, 2025. He is confident that with rest and continued rehabilitation, he will be fully fit for the global event.

The Kenyan has been training intensively at a high-performance camp in Miramas, France, alongside former world javelin champion Julius Yego. The training is part of Team Kenya’s preparations for the World Championships, with both athletes focused on achieving top results on the international stage.

Omanyala’s 2025 season has seen both highs and challenges. He recorded a first-place finish at the ASA Grand Prix in Johannesburg with a time of 10.08 seconds and also secured third place at the Kip Keino Classic. In the Diamond League series, he placed second in Xiamen, China, and Rabat, Morocco, but had a disappointing finish in Shanghai, which contributed to his current standing.

Wanda Diamond League standings said Omanyala is ranked third in the Men’s 100 meters, tied with Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, and eight points behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine. His absence in Zurich will leave a notable gap in Kenya’s representation.
