Content creators from different parts of the region  will meet at the University of Nairobi on  14th May to celebrate this year’s International Creators Day.

The annual event organised by technology company, Teki, will bring together artists, writers, musicians, vloggers, designers, and anyone who contributes to the world through creativity and innovation. The event has been organised in collaboration with leading technology companies and creator management and distribution platforms. Safaricom, the Leading TechCo in the region has taken the lead in supporting the event as a gold sponsor.

International Creator Day takes place on 23rd April and is a global initiative that celebrates the significant contribution that social media content creators have made to the lives of people around the world.

In Kenya, the organisers pushed the event to May to give more creators opportunity to attend as the designated date fell on Easter holidays when many have family engagements. This is the second time that the annual event will be held in the country.

Teki CEO, Mr Martin Muli, says the celebration is a way of showing appreciation and spreading awareness about the power and influence that content creators have around the world.  “The event also acknowledges the entrepreneurship of career creators and their ability to inspire, entertain, and educate communities worldwide. This year, we will introduce the brands track that will demonstrate tools brands can use to collaborate with content creators,” says Mr. Muli.

The event themed Creator Tech Stack:  Tools To Optimize Performance is expected to bring together content creators and brands for immersive engagement. It is a platform for creators, brands and industry service providers to meet and interact through exhibitions and conference.

Tech companies will showcase latest production equipment and technology that enable content creation, distribution and management. Brands will also set up studios where creators can instantly create and share content. “The conference which is the main activity of the day comprises various sessions that will give industry thought leaders, experts and practitioners the opportunity to explore different global and local trends,” explains Mr. Muli.

The conference will also highlight different creator tools through demonstrations, interviews, presentations and panels.

Safaricom’s Director, Brand and Marketing, Zizwe Awuor Vundla, says the day will serve as a reminder of the importance of creativity in modern culture and society.  “Creativity can be a powerful tool for expressing ideas and shaping public opinion. This day helps encourage people to continue creating and reminds us of the value and influence that creators have on society,” Vundla said.

International Creator Day was launched in 2016 when it was founded by YouTube influencer Casey Neistat to honour the passion and hard work of content creators across all online platforms. Since then, the day has become much more than that – with an invitation of creators of all kinds to celebrate, collaborate, and reveal their passions as they seek to inspire the world at large.
