List Of Projects Govt Is Doing For Nyanza Region

The Kenya Kwanza government, in the recent few months, has been engaged in several inclusion initiatives which gave birth to the broad-based government.

Following the formation of the governmnt and the inclusion of leaders from different regions, the government has been making delibarate efforts to launch projects in regions that have previously been marginalised.

One among those regions is Luo Nyanza, which has been perceived as being politically marginalised since independence.

Through President William Ruto’s government, Nyanza region is set to benefit from several government initiatives including roads, water projects, housing and trade, energy and food and security.

Here are some of the the projects done by the government in Nyanza;

Homa Bay

Road networks

The government has completed  several roads including62KM Rongo-Homa Bay Road, 43KM Homa Bay-Mbita Road (C19), and 82KM of the same road (B2) and the 66KM Kendu Bay-Homa Bay Road.

Water projects

The government has completed include West Karachuonyo, Sindo, Rangwe, Oyugis, Homa Bay  projects, bringing water to a target population of over 350,000 people.

The Lake Victoria Water and Sanitatin (LVWATSAN) program is also underway.

Housing & Trade

Among the projects under housing and trade include Mbita Market, Homa Bay Bus Park, Oyugis Bus Park, Fish Market in Koginga Beach, Rodi Kopanyi market, which are all either completed or on course to be completed.

Affordable Housing has seen total of 110 units constructed and they’re almost completed.

Energy

The Mageta Solar Mini-Grid is completed, as well as Sondu- Homa Bay Awendo transmission line which is almost completed. Awendo Ndhiwa line is completed and energised and is serving citizens.

Siaya

Road networks

Siaya-Ruambwa Road and Siaya Town Access Roads, Kodiaga-Wangai-Onyiore-Akala and Nyanweso Road, Ndere-Boro road and the Bondo Usesnge Osieko Road are all done done.

Water and sanitation

The Siaya-Bondo water and sanitation project has been done, supplying water and sewerage services to a target population of over 250,000 residents.

Irrigation and food security

Nyangera and Sare/Gwanga irrigation schemes are complete and are benefiting over 250 farmers. Also, Anyiko Rice Irrigation scheme and Lower Nzoia irrigation scheme are underway and in various stages of completeness.

Housing

National Police Service lines are complete, as well as Sega ESP Market. There are many more markets under construction in Obambo, Riat Kolemo, Akala, Bar Ober, and teh Siaya Integrated Modern Market.

Kisumu

In Kisumu, President Ruto has already commissioned the Kisumu Marine School. He has also commissioned the Nyabondo Trauma Centre. The 150-bed capacity specialised facility — fitted with theatres, Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit — enhances access to quality and affordable care to more than 5 million people in Nyanza Region.

The Lumumba Affordable Housing project has also been commissioned, which features 2,348 units spread across more than 15 blocks, offering three types of housing: social housing, affordable housing, and affordable market housing units.

He has also inaugurated Kabonyo Fisheries Aquaculture Service and Training Centre of Excellence which will be used to produce up to 10 million fingerlings annually, which will be instrumental in restocking Lake Victoria.

Also, the Lake Victoria Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Kisumu City is set to play a pivotal role in enhancing maritime safety and coordinating rescue operations, reflecting the government’s commitment to the well-being of the region’s residents.

The Lake Basin Mall, a significant retail and entertainment hub, set to stimulate trade and growth in the region.

The government has also lunched the MV Uhuru 2, a ship that will operate on Lake Victoria, enhancing transportation, trade, and economic growth, positioning the Nyanza region as a hub for maritime transport and logistics.

Migori

The government is upgrading the Ngege-Mapera-Rabuor and kawa-Osingo-Nyaduong Roads in Migori.

The Kegonga Cluster Water Project has also been launched to ensure that 139,474 families    will reliably have access to safe water for human consumption,fueling economic growth & safeguarding public health.

There is also an ongoing Lower Kuja Irrigation Development project in Nyatike, that will irrigate 19,000 acres of land, producing 80,000 tonnes of rice a year.

Ruto has also commissioned Uriri Hospital and launched the construction of the Mabera affordable Housing project in Kuria West constituency, a multifaceted project that addresses housing needs and community development.
