KPLC: Nairobi Among Counties to Experience Blackouts Wednesday

KPLC (Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) wishes to inform its customers in five counties, among them Nairobi, of upcoming power outages scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

In a notice posted on its social media channels, the country’s primary distributor of electricity announced that Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Kisumu and Migori are the counties which will be experiencing temporary blackouts at diverse times between 8 AM and 5 PM today.

“Good Evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow,” KPLC wrote on X, listing the specific areas in the affected counties as follows:

1. In Nairobi County;
From 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

* Scion Hospital, V Club, Johari’s, Mukuru Health Centre and Mukuru Educational Centre, Villa Franca Estate, Kings Millenium, St Bakhita, Takbir Distributors, Penda Medical Centre Embakasi, Bamba 70, Unique Estate, Seyani Brothers, Kenya Builders, Honey Suckle, King of Judah Ministries, Huduma Centre Eastleigh, Salama Wholesalers, Mega Wholesalers, Shell Petrol Station and Equity Bank Eastleigh and its adjacent customers.

2. In Nyeri County;
From 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

* Karangia Market, Ndunyu, Mathakwani Water Treatment, Kenyatta Mihiga High School, Mahiga Girls, Dr Kamundia Girls, Mathenge Technical, Munyange, Njigari, Gitugi, Gathuthi, Ihithe, Kihome and Hubuini.

3. In Kiambu County;
From 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

* Ngethu Waterworks Lower Camp, Ngorongo Health Centre and Ngorongo Market, Kamwangi Market, Dry Village, Sun Valley Hotel, Ndarwa, Igegania Hospital, Karuri Market, Mbichi Market, Watathi Market, Gatei Market, Ichachiri School, Kairi Market, Kairi Boys, St Ann’s Kairi, Kamiti Prisons, Ruturo, Mungu Farm, Ken Flora, Wood Crick, Mugumo, Munene East, Gitaru, Kanjeru, Muthure, Rukubi, Cura, Kahuho, Ruku, Kirangari, Gikuni Market, Nyathuna Market, Nyathuna Dispensary and Thingate B.

4. In Kisumu County;
From 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

* Kibos Sugar Industries, Guba Mariwa, Kotunga Dispensary and Angira primary and secondary schools.

5. In Migori County;
From 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

* Sony Sugar, Awendo Town, Ranen Market, Rinya Market, Awendo Water, Mageta, Aoro Choge, Mariwa Town, Awendo County Hospital, Kokuro Centre, Dede Centre, Ombasa, Ranen Mission, Panda, Mamuwadu, Rinya and Komware and its adjacent customers.

Power outages occur when the distribution of electricity to users is interrupted. KPLC says that it is necessary to address grid reliability issues to boost the electric supply in the local distribution system networks that deliver electricity to residential buildings and homes in the affected regions, as well as to support transmission expansion projects.
