Right now, your Facebook account might be an ordinary social media network for connecting with family and friends, but all that will change going forward: Facebook has completed setting up a program to pay Kenyan creators from August 6, 2024.
Facebook will no longer be just a popular platform for socialising; many small businesses and creators in Kenya, including everyone with a profile or page, will now be able to make money from it as the social app will be giving users an incentive for creating and posting original high-value content on the Meta owned platform by Mark Zuckerberg.
From now on, influencers and creators will be making money by using specific Facebook monetisation features, which were rolled out in the country yesterday. These are Facebook in-stream ads and Ads on Facebook Reels.

“This expansion will empower eligible creators in the vibrant creative industry in Kenya to earn money whilst setting the bar high for creativity across the world and making Meta’s family of apps the one-stop-shop for all creators,” Moon Baz, Meta’s global partnerships lead in Africa, Middle East and Turkey said Tuesday while commenting on the rollout.
How to earn money from Facebook in Kenya (2024)
Before you learn about the newly announced techniques for making money from Facebook in Kenya, you should know that this is not the first time that Facebook has given money to creators in the country;
The old way of earning on the platform was through Facebook Stars, “a feature that allows followers to show their appreciation for you as a creator” by buying Stars and sending them to you while you are live or on your past live videos, then you get paid $0.01 by Facebook for every Star you receive. Through this method, Facebook creators earned less because it involves purchasing Stars using real cash.
Today, Facebook in-stream ads and Ads on Facebook Reels are here, and the creators can make money for free.
What is Facebook in-stream ads?
Facebook in-stream ads is a way of making money on Facebook by including advertisements in your live and on-demand videos. These advertisements are categorised as Pre-roll ads that play before your video starts, Mid-roll ads for live videos, Post-roll ads that appear at the end of the live video and Image ads that display under the content after posting.
The ads are placed at natural breaks in your content, but as a creator, you can select how and when you monetise new and existing on-demand and live videos.
What is Ads on Facebook Reels in Kenya?
Hoping you understood all about Facebook in-stream ads, Ads on Facebook Reels is a way of earning money from Facebook through advertisements that will automatically be placed on your Reels – short videos complete with music, audio and other effects.
“Ads on Facebook Reels offer you a sustainable way to earn money from your reels with no extra effort,” Facebook says, adding that creators get paid based on the performance of their Reels.
However, to get paid through either Facebook in-stream ads or Ads on Facebook Reels, there are some minimum requirements you must have attained on your Facebook page or profile:

How much can you earn from Facebook in Kenya?
For live and on-demand videos, the rates start at about $0.01-0.02 per view – this means the more viewers that seek out your content, the more payouts you receive – and you could pocket up to $20 for every 1,000 views. On average, though, most creators get paid around $4 and $8 to approximately an equivalent of Ksh2,000 maximum because of things likep target restrictions, demographics and geography, which influence the CPM (Cost Per Mile), also referred to as the cost per 1,000 views, of ad campaigns.
Facebook’s monetisation policy requires a minimum of 1,000 views for a video to start earning to ensure that only high-value content that attracts a significant audience gets monetised.
