Kenya Power Says Four Counties Will Face Blackout Today

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) is alerting customers in Migori, Homa Bay, Makueni and Kisii counties of a planned power blackout scheduled for today, Friday, August 2, 2024.

Hundreds to thousands of homes and businesses in the four affected counties, except for Kisii County, will stay without power from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the utility said about the outage in their latest update on their social media pages.

“Hello. The following areas will be affected by planned power maintenance tomorrow,” Kenya Power Care posted on Thursday night, noting that the outage in Kisii will start at 9:00 AM, like the other counties, but end an hour later at 5:00 PM in its areas of Mobamba Secondary School, Moremani Secondary School and Moremani Market, Ibacho Market, Nyankononi Primary, Nyamagega COG Secondary, Ibacho Health Centre, Ibacho Secondary School, Ibacho Market, Riamakanda Primary School and Gesabakwa Primary School.

In Migori County, the planned power interruption will hit parts of Osiri and Osiri Gold Mine, Lwanda Magwar, Ndhiwa Center, Nyakwere Center and some parts of Sori.

In Homa Bay County, it is several parts of Kadongo Market, Misambi Market, Wang’apala Booster, Wang’apala Secondary School, Oriang Polytechnic, Bishop Linux Okok Girls High School, Nyapalo Market, Othoro Market, Kodada Market, Pala C/Fact and Atela Dispensary.

Also, its Oodi Beach and Agolo Muok areas, which comprise St Camillus, Agolomuok, Seka, Ongongo, God Oloo Safaricom Booster, Oodi Beach, Koga and Otati will experience the planned power blackout.

Lastly, it is a small part of Sultan Town, Sultan Police, Holy Ghost School, Kalimbini, Ngokomi, Kwothithu, Kiongwani, Kima, Kiu, Salama, Kautandini, Malili, Enzai, Nunguni, Kilungu, Kavatanzou, Mitini and Kyambeke and its adjacent customers that will face the organised blackout from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM today in Makueni County.

Over that time, when KPLC customers are without power in the affected regions, the utility technicians will be working on the lines, conducting electric system upgrades and repairs to boost service reliability.

As a precaution, during such planned power interruptions, it is advisable to switch appliances off to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on.
