Kalonzo Musyoka is the new Azimio la Umoja leader and is taking over from Raila Odinga going forward.
In a statement issued on behalf of the political party by Jeremiah Kioni on Thursday, July 25, Kalonzo was chosen to lead the whole of the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party to give Raila an adequate time to launch an unprecedented coordinated campaign to secure the support of enough delegates to win the Africa Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson seat.
“We want to thank our leader, Raila Odinga, who has led our Coalition successfully since its formation. We know his quest for AUC leadership will enter a critical stage starting next week, and we wish him luck as he prepares to take on the continental duties,” said Kioni, the Secretary General of Jubilee Party, one of the political parties forming Azimio.

He continued that the Wiper Party leader, who was the tenth Vice-President of Kenya from 2008 to 2013, was seen as the best fit because he has been leading them commendably during the recent times that Raila has been busy with AUC campaign initiatives.
“Kalonzo Musyoka has continued to lead us while Raila has been out seeking the leadership of the African Union, and we continue to ask him to guide us as a coalition. We have resolved he continues leading us even as we allow Raila to continue with AUC campaigns,” he stated.
On the nomination of some of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) principals like John Mbadi, Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, the former Kakamega governor, to President William Ruto’s cabinet, Kioni insisted that they are not against the move as Azimio la Umoja despite its Secretary General Edwin Sifuna saying that the nominated Cabinet Secretaries had joined the government as individuals.
Earlier, before their nominations, during the first days of Gen Z’s anti-government protests, Kalonzo had maintained that they would not be engaging the President at any point or for anything.
