Three tourists were killed, and at least three others were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in from Amboseli National Park to Nairobi rolled over on Emali–Oloitokitok road in Kajiado County on Thursday, officials said.

All of them were rushed to Kilome Nursing and Maternity Hospital in Emali, where the three who had life-threatening injuries succumbed as others continued to receive treatment, a police spokesperson said.

The spokesperson, Dr Resila Onyango, the director of communications at the National Police Service (NPS), said that the rear left wheel of the vehicle which the tourists were in, a Toyota Landcruiser, detached itself from the axle, causing the driver to lose control:

“As a result, the vehicle veered off from the road and overturned,” she said.

Dr Onyango identified the six tourists involved in the tragic incident as Chinese nationals and said that the three killed were two males and a female.

The wreckage of the vehicle, which appeared to have mangled seats, was transported to Mashuuru Police Station as investigations into the road accident started.
