KPLC Announces Planned Power Interruption in Four Counties

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) is alerting customers in Kiambu, Nairobi, Nyeri, and Samburu counties of a planned power interruption scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, June 27.

In all four counties, the power outage is expected to last from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except for Nyeri County, where it will start at 8:00 AM and end at 5:00 PM in its areas of Kirinyaga Construction, Roben Aberdare, Ceprene Industries, Milimani Clasher, Nyewasco Gatei plant, Mathina, Kwa Gideon and Chaka Brookside.

KPLC officials said the organised blackouts in the affected areas are needed for electric system upgrades and repairs to ensure reliability for customers.

“The interruption is part of network maintenance,” the company said in a notice, listing precise areas in the other counties which will be affected by the interruption as follows:

In Kiambu County;

* Areas which will be affected by the planned power interruption in Kiambu are Buffalo Estate, Magic Stone Quarry, St George School, Kabati, Kwa Magu, Kangoki, Kimucu, Muthara, parts of Varsity Ville, Naivas, Quickmart, Mutonya Dispensary, Kwa China, Sewage, Kwihota, Gituamba Water Project and Thome.

Additionally, there is Gwa Kairu Riverside, St Linda, Gatong’ora, Sunrise, Kamakis, Miti Kenda, Karuguru, Kiratina, By Pass Corner, Green Valley, Silicon Valley, Tiverton and the whole of Mashinani area.

In Nairobi County;

* Areas which will be affected by the planned power interruption in Nairobi are Dandora Phase 2, 3 and 4, Dandora Dumpsite, Co-op Bank, Uprising, Ngomongo, Lucky Summer, Tiba Primary School, Ngunyumu Primary School, parts of Jogoo Road, Buruburu Phase 5, Muguna’s Supermarket, Naivas and Uhuru Market.

Also, the Museum Headquarters, Westlands Road, UoN Law Campus, Chemilil Road, Kipande Road, Mushembi Road, and Ngara market in Ngara and Parklands will experience the outage.

In Samburu County;

* Areas which will be affected by the planned power interruption in Samuru are Posta, Mugie Ranch, Churo, Tangulbei, Suguta Marmar, Maralal Town, Maralal Water Supply, Polo Radar station, Kisima and Loosuk and all its adjacent customers.

While KPLC technicians will be working on the lines, they are urging affected customers to be patient and to treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the interruption.

During such planned power interruptions, it is advisable to switch appliances off as a precaution to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on.
