This Facebook page mimicking Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and purporting to issue loans is a HOAX.

The page ‘KCB cash payout’ had 17 likes and 21 followers as of 9 November 2023.

It has made posts such as this one, claiming to issue loans via mobile money or through the bank.

According to the page’s transparency information, it was created on 1 November 2023, which is a red flag as KCB has been around for years.

But is the page legitimate? Does it belong to KCB?

We searched for KCB Bank on Facebook and established that the financial institution’s authentic Facebook page is verified.

The genuine page uses the name ‘KCB Group’ and had over 1.2 million likes and 1.3 million followers as of 9 November 2023.

Unlike the page under investigation, the legitimate page has contact details such as an official email address and a website that has among others the bank’s phone numbers.

According to the page’s transparency information, it was created on 1 January 2011 as KCB Bank Group, but was renamed KCB Group on 26 January 2016.

We checked the verified page for any posts similar to the one we are debunking, but we found none.

In a response to PesaCheck’s message on X (formerly Twitter), the financial institution distanced itself from the page and the loans being offered on it.

“Kindly ignore. Those are fraudsters,” the bank posted.

PesaCheck examined a Facebook page mimicking Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and purporting to issue loans and found it to be a HOAX.
