George Njoroge: Meet Azimio IT Guru Who Built Data Empire

George Njoroge is a prolific IT and Computer forensics guru who built one of the continent’s largest data recovery and computer forensics firms – East Africa Data Handlers (EADH). He has served as Managing Director of the company since establishing it 15 years ago.

Since 2016, he has also served as CEO of a newer venture – Alternative Pulse Plc, trading as Go Pesa. The firm describes itself as a ‘mobile merchant platform powering over 10,000 merchants in Kenya’.

This year, however, he finds himself with the task of overseeing IT in the Presidential campaign of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition candidate. In a country where, historically at least, elections are hotly contested and systems often compromised, jobs don’t come much harder.

But Njoroge certainly has the mettle for it. His experience in securing data makes him an asset for the Azimio team which will be looking to safeguard Odinga’s votes.

Njoroge holds a Bachelor of Science in I.T from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

His professional career has seen him hold a number of key IT roles in the private sector. In 2004, he spent 10 months at Microsoft before moving on to Sahara Computers as IT Manager for Kenya and Uganda.

Between August 2005 and October 2006, he served as IT Manager at AITEC Africa, an ICT-focused professional development and training firm. Njoroge’s roles at AITEC included managing the company’s ICT infrastructure.

He jumped into business in 2007 when he established East Africa Data Handlers. The firm has grown into one of the region’s most sought after data companies and counts several large businesses among its clients.

The firm describes itself as ‘the biggest Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Solutions provider in Africa with its patented technology-driven services and software to help recover, search, analyze and produce data efficiently and cost-effectively.’

He has earned various accolades in his career including being named the ICT CEO of Year in  2016 by the ICT Authority in Kenya. For his contribution to the ICT Sector in Kenya, he was awarded the ICT Lifetime Achievement Award 2015 by the Computer Society of Kenya.

In Azimio, his role will include overseeing the campaign’s assesment and analysis of results being tallied and transmitted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). He was among key officials who accompanied Odinga to a meeting of Presidential candidates with IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati.
