Sanofi launches over-the-counter anti-acid dosage in Kenya

Sanofi, the global healthcare company, has unveiled an antacid drug that to relieve heartburn, hyperacidity and indigestion.

Maalox Lemon stick is the pioneer dosage form in the antacid market in Kenya, being ready to drink anytime and can be purchased over the counter.

Initially Maalox was only available in the market as a prescription only drug. However, with the entry of the small and convenient pack, Maalox will be available over the counter and consumers can easily access the product from pharmacies countrywide.

Speaking during the launch, Sanofi’s Consumer Health Care Business Unit Head for Eastern Southern Africa, Kenneth Bide said: “There are many people with hyperacidity and acid indigestion due to consumption of spicy foods, various medications or a stressed lifestyle.”

This medication can be used by people with conditions such as hyperacidity, indigestion, dyspepsia, gastritis, oesophageal reflux and peptic ulceration.

“It is estimated that sixty percent of the adult population will experience some type of gastroesophageal reflux disease resulting from hyperacidity”, according to Healthline.com an online medical journal.
