Safaricom top hit as stocks tick up at NSE

Safaricom Plc was Thursday’s top mover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) with 9.9 million shares valued at Ksh258 million changing hands

Safaricom Plc was Thursday’s top mover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) with 9.9 million shares valued at Ksh258 million changing hands at between Ksh26.00 and Ksh26.15 representing 55.32% of the day’s traded value.

Market activity improved marginally to Ksh466 million from Wednesday’s  Ksh458 million, the number of shares traded stood at 17.7 million against 11 million posted yesterday.

The NSE 20 Share Index was down 6.25 points to stand at 3005.16 while the All Share Index (NASI) shed 0.61 points to stand at 154.93. The NSE 25 Share index lost 17.12 points to stand at 3911.03.

Banking

The banking sector had shares worth Ksh148 million transacted which accounted for 31.83% of the day’s traded value.

KCB Group actively moved 1.7 million shares valued at Ksh72.6 million at between Ksh41.05 and Ksh42.50.

Co-operative Bank was down 0.20 cents to Ksh14.75 moving 2 million shares worth Ksh30 million.

Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) moved 100,000 shares worth Ksh15 million and closed at Ksh152.00.

Energy & Petroleum

The energy & petroleum sector had shares worth Ksh9 million traded & accounted for 1.97% of the day’s turnover.

Kenya Power & Lighting closed the day 0.40% lower to Ksh5.00 moving 1.4 million shares valued at Ksh7 million.

KenGen stock ticked down 1.52% to Ksh6.48. The power generator moved 306,000 shares worth Ksh1.9 million.

 Insurance

The insurance sector had shares worth Ksh3.7million traded & accounted for 0.80% of the day’s turnover.

Jubilee Holdings rose by 1.06% to Ksh429.50 with shares worth Ksh2.2 million transacted.

Manufacturing & Allied

The manufacturing & allied sector had shares worth Ksh42.6 million transacted which accounted for 9.13% of the day’s traded value.

East African Breweries (EABL) moved 208,000 shares valued at Ksh40.6 million at a fairly stable price of Ksh195.00.

British American Tobacco (BAT) moved 1,000 shares worth Ksh1 million and closed at Ksh 614.00.

Bonds

The bond market had bonds worth Ksh1.4 billion transacted.
