NASA leader Raila Odinga has called off the #Resist movement which urged his supporters not to use products and services from a number of companies perceived to have been supportive of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election last year.
Speaking at the national Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Park today, the Right Honourable Raila Odinga told the country that in the spirit of his new-found friendship with the President, the #Resit campaign directed at Safaricom, Bidco, Brookside and Haco Industries, among other companies, had ended.
Mr Odinga, who spoke before the President’s speech was read by Labour Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani, said he was in talks with Uhuru to unite the country and calling off the #Resist campaign would support the cooperation.
Some of the companies had suffered reduced consumption of their products in NASA strong holds and it will a major relief for their managers and owners. Raila had led the #Resist campaign late last year by dumping his Safaricom line and joining Airtel, touching off a mass registration for the network. The economic sabotage was aimed at punishing companies associated with President Uhuru and those believed to have been supporting him.

The move comes even as the #Resist campaign appeared to have lost momentum especially after the much-hyped swearing-in of Raila Odinga failed to cause a political storm as expected. Instead, Uhuru reached out to him and they are now working on a government of national unity symbolized by the historic handshake on 9th March.
Also dead is the National Resistance Movement (NRM), which was being positioned to led anti-government activities. A 14-member team has been created to hammer a government structure that will give Raila Odinga a significant role in the running of government. Analysts say the NASA leader could be put in charge of the county governments.
