Revellers with religious-like beer tasting mannerisms have a reason to get excited as Nairobi will from September 29 host the country’s first 9-day beer festival.

The festival organized by food tech company Eat Out and Baraka Events will coincide with the Munich Oktoberfest Beer Festival which will be held in Germany.

Beer festivals are common place in Europe and in the United States. Thousands of people usually turn up for the beer festivals, where revellers have a go at different beers from across the world and interact with other beer lovers.

Nairobi residents will now have an opportunity to treat themselves to the same kind of feeling.

The beer festival will be hosted in two phases. The first two days will comprise beer tasting with the remaining seven days left for promotions at bars and restaurants around the city.

During the initial two day beer tasting phase which will be held at J’s Fresh Bar & Kitchen in Westlands, over 40 different brands of beer will be at the behest of revellers.

According to the organizers, the tasting event is expected to attract over 2500 beer lovers, distributors and brewers under one roof over the two days.

Tickets for the event are retailing for 1500 for advanced bookings, while VIP and master class tickets are available for Ksh 3,000 and Ksh 2,500 respectively. Besides the beer, ticket holders will also be treated to cuisines.

“This is the first beer focused event EatOut has hosted and we’re proud to be working alongside some of the best breweries from the region and beyond”

Michelle Slater, Eat Out’s General Manager.

In the West, beer tasting and being a beer ambassador are full time jobs.

In January 2017, World of Beer, a store which collects beers from across the world announced four internship vacancies. It needed four interested persons who it would pay Ksh1.2million for four months work of travelling across the world sampling different brands of beer and sharing their stories on social media.
