Two months after being the victim of an attack and torture by unknown assailants, Michael Kulundu succumbed to his injuries. He was 54.
The Acting Nzoia Sugar Managing Director died in Nairobi. He had been hospitalised since early January when he was found tortured and left in a trench.
Kulundu has been at the helm of Nzoia Sugar in an acting capacity since January 2017 when his predecessor Godfrey Wanyonyi, along with six other senior managers were suspended by the board of the sugar millers on corruption allegations.
Prior to being the Nzoia Sugar acting MD, Kulundu was a project implementation manager.
His death comes even as mystery continues to surround the identity and intentions of the assailants who kidnapped Kulundu on January 2 from a hotel.
Having gone missing throughout the night, the Acting MD’s family found him at Bungoma West Hospital where he had reportedly been taken by a good samaritan who had discovered him in a trench near the hotel where he had been last seen.
Nzoia Sugar’s management denied involvement in the abduction and torture, instead linking it to “forces” that were against the privatisation of the sugar miller.
Over the course of Kulundu’s two year reign, Nzoia Sugar has been unable to appoint a substantive MD.
