KCB named best bank in East Africa region

KCB Bank has been named the Best Regional Bank in East Africa at the just concluded African Banker Awards 2017 in Ahmedabad, India.

The bank emerged the best in the category, at the awards gala on Tuesday evening, in recognition of its contribution to providing financial services in the larger East African region.

During the same awards, through its social responsibility arm the KCB Foundation, the bank was nominated in the category of the most Socially Responsible Bank of the Year, recognizing the bank’s reputation of improving the lives of the less advantaged in society.

Other nominations that the bank received include: Best Retail Bank, and the African Banker of the year where, the Group CEO and MD Joshua Oigara was nominated.

Mr Oigara said the recognition signaled the bank’s consistent growth that has been underpinned by KCB’s ability to deliver value to its stakeholders, anchored on a keen interest to deliver shared value through sustainable banking practices.

“This award recognizes the effort we have put in and we are continuing to do to increase the number of the unbanked and integrating new technologies into the system to ensure safe and easy transactions throughout the East Africa Region” said Mr Oigara.

The Best Regional Bank award, organisers said, is presented to a bank that in its capacity, has been able to provide new services, adopting inclusiveness by bringing the unbanked into the banking space while making use of new technologies and contributing to a stronger financial sector.

The accolades given to KCB are supported by solid profitability metrics, a strong domestic retail and corporate franchise, strong capital buffers, a well-structured deposit-based funding model and high level of liquid assets.

The African Banker Awards came just a week after KCB was feted by  the Banker Africa Magazine with the Best Commercial Bank in Kenya and the Best Commercial Bank in East Africa at the Banker Africa East Africa awards 2017.

KCB’s business is largely in Kenya, but with regional operations in other East African Community counties (Tanzania Burundi, Uganda, and Rwanda) as well as in South Sudan and Ethiopia.
