Business Today was on Saturday announced as the best Business Blog of the Year during the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) Awards 2018 at an event held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi.

This is the first time the blog started by former Nation Business Editor Luke Mulunda and which is reputed as Kenya’s leading source of news in business, technology, media, stock analysis, career advice, management and lifestyle, among others, was shortlisted for the awards after a sterling year in which it broke several stories especially on the media sector.

Speaking after the win, Mr Mulunda dedicated the award to the Business Today (BT) team and readers, saying they are the motivation behind the website’s growing success. BT, started four years ago, has grown in terms of readership to over one million page views per month and is increasingly influential across media and corporate worlds.

“This award shows that our professional work is being recognised,” Mr Mulunda, who is BT’s managing editor, said. “We are attracting advertisers from some of the leading corporates in Kenya and a number of international organisations. We are expanding our readership to remain the leading business news and information website in Kenya.”

It was the first independent business website in Kenya and its growth has sparked interest from various investors who have entered the business space in digital media. The website is run my a team of experienced journalists.

The Winners’ Gala Event was attended by some of the top Kenyan bloggers and influencers. Other  first timers were aluochbonnita.com, lizmazingira.com , Over 25 and cravingyellow.com. Women continued to impress at the awards with a record 15 awards going to them. Tatianakaranja.com made history by being the first woman to ever win in the photography category.

The awards are an annual initiative by the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) and are now in their 7 year.

Started in 2012, the competition is the only one that honours and showcases the best in Kenyan blogging. Travel blog, Bonnita on Safari, was voted the Kenyan blog of the year 2018.
