Though for overwhelmingly wrong reasons, by now, almost everyone knows Khalif Kairo, the city car seller recently arrested and arraigned for alleged auto dealer fraud. He appeared in the news everywhere and became the talk of social media, where he commands a significant following.
Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina announced on January 14 the unsealing of a complaint charging him with two counts of fraud, contrary to Section 315 of the Penal Code, which defines the offence of cheating.
According to court documents, Kairo, whose real name is Joseph Kairo Wambui, fraudulently obtained money intended for vehicle purchases from two individuals—Ksh2.1 million from Jeff Kyule Munane and Ksh2.98 million from Dora Okoth—but failed to deliver or fulfil the sale agreements.

The Chief Magistrate heard that the money was deposited into the bank account belonging to his company, Imports By Kairo (Kai and Kairo Limited), on diverse dates last year. Jeff, the first complainant, had asked Kairo to import a Honda Vezel hybrid from Japan for him, while Dora required his help in acquiring a Subaru Outback as per the initial arrangement.
Even though the court released Kairo on Ksh2 million cash bail after the Chief Magistrate determined he was not a flight risk, as contended by the prosecution, I can strongly say he is the maker of his problems. Why?
Kairo is a publicity hound, an attention-seeker, a person who constantly looks for fame irrelevantly – and so, respected personalities will tell you that what is happening to him is exactly what happens to such people before they get entirely mangled.
You know what? Fame is a good thing. A treasure. King David will tell you. For that, it usually comes with special diligence. Mini-steps learning processes that when you finally come out, you know how to handle things. All things regarding you, the person, and what is happening around you, including your behaviour.
Real fame is portrayed in people who work for it. I mean, it comes from the output of self. It is the work that brings people to the forefront, not mere activities. When they finally come out, they remain relevant for a good amount of time because their impact and abilities allow their inner light to shine through.
If you end up working for fame, clout chasing as it is called, you will miss out on important lessons and end up like Kairo. Saying “It is God, it is God” by day, and being filled with pride, thinking you are the richest person to walk the earth, by night. Such a class!
This is the craziness and stupidity of Kibet Bull, thinking he is famous right now. They never learn.
