LUSAKA, Zambia: June 25 (Xinhua) — Tanzanian Precision Air has joined Emirates Airlines and Royal Dutch KLM by launching direct flights to Zambia with its first plane expected to touch down at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, on Friday afternoon, according to Daily Mail.
Zambian Minister of Transport, Communication, Works and Supply Yamfwa Mukanga said the development would enhance trade between the two countries as distance has been cut to two hours from 10 hours.
Despite Zambia and Tanzania being neighbors, business people traveling to Tanzania had to fly via Kenya or Ethiopia due to lack of direct flight.
“Many businessmen especially car traders go to Tanzania and it takes them 10 hours to fly to that country hence delaying business transactions. Every business person knows that time is money and I’m happy that Precision Air helped reduce the distance to Tanzania,” he was quoted as saying by the paper.
The airline’s chief executive officer Alfonso Kioko said Zambia has become the 16th destination for the airline. (Xinhua)
