Samsung today launched the Galaxy S6 Edge+ in Kenya, its latest smartphone in the market. The move is aimed at intensifying the company’s dominance in the smartphones segment in the East African region.

Speaking during the launch, Samsung East Africa Chief Operations Officer, Mr Robert Ngeru, Samsung’s technological deployment meets consumer within the right timing. “The technology that Samsung has deployed on this device is a result of current market needs and rapidly changing lifestyles of smart phone users who have an appetite for information and content,” he said.

The Galaxy S6 Edge+ comes with a 4GB RAM and offers a powerful capacity and processing power. It enables users to enjoy more seamless multi-tasking, keeping up with messages; post updates to social networks and is also installed with high graphic-heavy games. It is a replica of the curved design of S6 Edge with easy access to the mobile applications.

“Functionality and easy to use capabilities continue to form the core of Samsung’s design philosophy. The S6 Edge+ represent the barriers we continue to push in order to create new technologies and enhance user experiences particularly for emerging markets like Kenya,” Mr Ngeru added.

The S6 Edge+ features Samsung’s first wired and wireless charging technology compatible with a wireless pad available in the Samsung market.

Samsung has grappled with numerous market challenges, including stiff competition from Apple for the high-end market and rising Chinese firms that produce mobile phones such as Tecno. Counterfeit mobile phone products are another challenge affecting the smart phone industry.

“We are working in partnership with the government through Communications Authority. Shops that display fake Samsung products shall soon be raided. Our customers should also be vigilant and always ensure their products are original,” said Mr Robert Ngeru.

The new brand will retail at Ksh99,000 for the 64 GB whereas 32 GB Edge+ device costs Ksh82989. Shipment begins on Thursday.  The Galaxy Note 5, which retails at about Ksh.70000, was unveiled in August.
