Nairobi Aviation College students cause havoc in city centre

Students from Nairobi Aviation College took to the streets to vent their anger following an expose by NTV’s  Dennis Okari exposing fake certificates.

According to the chairman of the student governing body, Mike Bonge, the demo was aimed at seeking address from the Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi and the management of Nation Media Group.

“We have invested heavily in our studies at the college. If the government will nullify our certificate they need to give us a way forward,” said Bonge.

Police officers had to step in to calm the situation after the students turned wild and started stoning journalists who came to cover the demonstration. This however infuriated them further leading them to engage the police in a fight. The law keepers had to use teargas  canisters to disperse the students.

The fracas outside the Nation Media Centre saw several journalists sustain minor injuries from the angry students; some lose their cameras as one policeman was bitten by a female student as he attempted to arrest her.

Twenty students were arrested in connection to today’s incidence. They were taken to Central Police Station awaiting arraignment.

According to the investigative piece named certificates of doom, Nairobi Aviation College has been selling certificates to people through  some lecturers for as little as Ksh3,000.

The students vowed to continue with the demonstration until they got an audience.
