MP Shah Hospital moves to quell influenza fears

MP Shah Hospital has reassured the public that “everything remains in control” following the death of a patient at the facility on Friday who succumbed to the deadly influenza virus.

In a press dispatch released on Tuesday, the hospital’s management said it has taken measures to control the disease saying that another patient admitted to the facility showing similar symptoms is under treatment and in stable condition.

“We would like to acknowledge on Thursday July 18, 2019 a patient was brought to our hospital and subsequently admitted with signs and symptoms of a respiratory tract infection. The patient’s condition worsened and unfortunately passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019,” reads the statement.

The hospital adds that it has been advised by experts at the Ministry of Health that the strain is part of the seasonal influenza strains adding that constant surveillance is being carried out by authorities on the same.

“We would therefore like to urge members of the public not to panic. Those with “flu like symptoms” should ensure that they follow coughing etiquette and hygiene practices,” reads the dispatch “If anyone has symptoms and fever not responding to common antipyretic medication, kindly seek medical attention from the nearest hospital,”
