Kenya Airways has made changes to its flight schedules to Far East Asia to optimise services to the region, which is a key economic partner for Africa. This will translate into increased capacity from its Nairobi hub into Guangzhou, China.

Kenya Airways chief Executive Officer and group Managing Director Titus Naikuni said from November 19, the airline will launch direct flights three times a week to Guangzhou, while maintaining the four-times-a-week linked flights to the Chinese city via Bangkok.

Three times a week flights to Hong Kong via Bangkok started today. Previously, the flights to Hong Kong were through Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. “The Far East is not only a key source of foreign direct investment and trade for Africa, but is also emerging as an important source market for the tourism sector in the continent,” Mr Naikuni said.

“For these reasons, we are optimizing our services into the region so as to contribute towards sustainable development of the continent which is our core purpose.” The Kenya Airways’ flights to Hong Kong will depart from Nairobi every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 20:20 hours, arriving in Bangkok the following day at 10.00 hours.

The onward flight to Hong Kong leaves at 11.20 hours local time and arrives at 15.00 hours local time. The return flight from Hong Kong departs at 19.05 hours on the same day, to arrive in Bangkok at 20.55 hours. It then departs for Nairobi at 21.55 hours local time, to arrive at 03.25 hours Kenyan time.

The non-stop flights to Guangzhou will depart from Nairobi every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 23.59 hours Kenyan time, arriving at 15.55 hours local time; while the return flight will leave at 21.40 hours local time to arrive back in Nairobi at 04.10 hours Kenyan time.
