Popular comedian Jalang’o, known officially as Felix Odiwuor, has revealed that in the last three months, he made some Ksh1.8 million through his YouTube channel. Jalang’o further said Instagram channel rakes in up to Ksh3 million per month.

“YouTube sent us our first cheque in three months of Ksh1.8 million from ad revenue,” Jalang’o said. He made these revelations in an interview with fellow YouTuber, Tonnie Murithi.

This means that in a good month, his social media channels including Facebook generate in excess of Ksh4.8 million. His YouTube channel has over 200,000 subscribers while his Instagram platform has close to 2 million followers.

The revelations come just after the Kiss 100 FM presenter and Vlogger was ranked as the biggest digital influencer in Kenya, making him the most popular media personality.

A report authored by research firm Geopoll Online Influencers’ Influence In Kenya And Nigeria ranked him top, followed by Njugush (comedian), Eric Omondi (comedian), Size 8 (gospel singer), Betty Kyalo (media personality), Robert Alai (blogger), Akothee (businesswoman), Churchill (comedy business executive and presenter), Jeff Koinange (news anchor and talk show host) and Maxine Wabosha (vlogger) as the top 10 digital influencers in the country respectively.

His influence was measured on various platforms including radio, comedy and social media presence on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

The YouTube Partner Program, for instance, lets creators monetize their content on YouTube. Creators can earn money from advertisements aired on their videos and from YouTube Premium subscribers watching their content. YouTube has a 45/55 per cent sharing formula which lets creators keep 55 per cent of revenue generated from their content.

Jalang’o’s Bonga na Jalas weekly shows on YouTube have become a major hit, attracting some of the biggest numbers among Kenyan YouTube content creators. Jalang’o leverages on the platform to attract revenue from both advertisers and YouTube’s monetization program. On Instagram, his revenues are mainly generated from adverts and endorsements.
