Safaricom has announced eight more winners of Ksh 1 million in the ongoing Shukrani KochoKocho consumer promotion by Safaricom.

They are Simon Nzomo Mutuku, a 28-year–old car wash employee from Kasarani, Nairobi; Priscilah  Kivali Vundi from Lucky Summer, Nairobi, who sells cameras; Rahab Lucy Wanja, a hustler from Kangema, Central region; Derrick Kamau from Western, who sells motor vehicle spare parts; Japeth Okari of Suneka market, Kisii, Nyanza; Moses Kariuki,  who is an Agrovet worker in Tharaka Nithi county, Mary Nyambura Mbugua from Naivasha and Irine Auma Akanya from Nyanza  region. Coast and North Eastern winners will be announced in the coming week once the winners are reached.

Nzomo, a father of one who works as a car cleaner, says this is the first time he has won anything in his life. He plans to buy a plot and start a workshop to sell motor spares.

“I did not believe it at first because I have never won anything in my entire life. I have never owned such an amount of money before and I thought I was dreaming. I will buy a plot of land and build my home and also start a workshop to sell motor spare parts to sustain my family,” said Nzomo.

Coming from a poverty stricken family in Kavisuni, Kitui County, the third born in a family of six did not proceed to college after form four due to lack of school fees. He now looks forward to a promising future as a family man.

In its fourth week, the promotion has seen more than two million customers across the country awarded with weekly cash and daily airtime prizes worth over Ksh 110 million.

“We would like to congratulate customers who have won so far and remind the ones who are yet to win that there are more prizes to be won in the remaining weeks of the campaign. We are in our fourth week and already over Ksh 100 million worth of prizes have been won. By rewarding a millionaire in every county, the promotion is a representation of diversity and inclusion which is an important tenet of our operations as a company,” said Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Customer Officer, Safaricom

Customers earn ten entries for every Ksh 20 top-ups and one entry for every Ksh 20 transacted on M-PESA.  Qualifying M-PESA transactions include sending money, receiving money from a business, transfers from a financial institution to M-PESA, and all Lipa Na M-PESA transactions.
