East African Breweries Limited (EABL) on Thursday, October 22 announced the appointment of Ory Okolloh Mwangi as an Independent Non-Executive Director of the company.
Company Secretary Kathryne Maundu issued a statement on behalf of the Board of Directors confirming the appointment which took effect on Friday, October 16.
In April, Okolloh had announced her exit from Omidyar Network and Luminate Group where she served as the Managing Director.
Omidyar provided funding and support for organizations working on solutions to improve civil participation, transparency and advocacy.
She sits on the boards of several organizations including the Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company, Stanbic Holdings Plc, Stanbic Bank Kenya and Harvard University’s Center for African Studies.
Highly respected in tech circles, Okolloh also previously had a stint with Google as Policy and Strategy Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa.

She was credited with persuading governments to adopt open-internet policies meant to boost ease of access to the internet,
Okolloh is the holder of a Political Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Juris Doctor (J.D) from Harvard Law School.
Notably, Okolloh is also a co-founder of Ushahidi, the celebrated information crowdsourcing application.
Ushahidi has been used in different scenarios around the world, including to map the post-earthquake crisis in Haiti and to monitor elections in Kenya, Mexico and India.
