NAIROBI, Kenya
Jairus Otambo is the lucky winner of the grand prize of Sh1 million in the Imperial Leather ‘Oga na Milli’ promotion. Otambo, who lives in Nairobi, received his cheque from PZ Cussons, the manufacturer of Imperial Leather soap, at a ceremony held at the company’s head offices in Baba Dogo, Nairobi.
Other winners in the final draw were Mzee Daniel Nyaga from Naivasha and Mrs Lilian Akelo, a teacher in Nairobi, who went home with Sh750,000 each. For Nyaga, a farmer, it was a happy return to Nairobi since 1980 when he last visited the capital.
PZ Cussons East Africa Managing Director Dimitris Kostianis said the company had spent more than Sh50 million on the promotion to reward its customers and impact on their lives in a positive way.
The four-month promotion, which was launched in July, had three mini-draws in which the top prize was Sh750,000, followed by Sh75,000. “Our brand has really benefited from the promotion and we are happy to make a difference in people’s lives because they will likely use the money to improve their businesses and educate their children,” he said.
The promotion was anchored on a re-launch of the soap, which also coincided with its 75th anniversary. He said the family market was still strong in the soaps industry.
Meanwhile, Kostianis said PZ Cussons is increasing its investment in Kenya to serve regional markets within the COMESA region. He said the company has also entered the Southern Sudan market through its distributor in Uganda and would scale up its operations as the market expands.
