British America shakes up management

British American Investment Company, which listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange mid last year, has announced major changes in top management.

“We have revamped our corporate affairs unit, and giving it a senior executive representation at director level, because as a listed company we have to be on the front foot as regards to our corporate Image as this impacts on our service delivery and corporate reputation,” Group Managing Director Mr. Benson Wairegi said in a statement issued today.

“We need to realign our offering to staff, and that is why we have expanded the role of our company secretary, who also sits on the board, to include human resource and talent development, so that we can achieve the demand of our ambitious growth strategy.”

Mr. Muthoga Ngera has been appointed the new director, marketing and corporate affairs. He will be responsible for marketing, research, corporate social responsibility and corporate affairs while Mrs. Nancy Kiruki is the new director legal, human resources and company secretary.

Mr. Ambrose Dabani is the General Manager, Life and Pensions, responsible for the one distribution channel, pension, group life and life operations which includes underwriting, customer service and premium processing.

Jack Maina is the new Chief Information Officer, responsible for IT operations, project management, IT Innovation and information security & compliance.

“One of our promises during the IPO was to revamp our distribution channels through the introduction of new and innovative solutions using interactive technologies, to expand existing market segments and develop new ones and the IT Division has a huge role to ensure that these goals are achieved,” said Wairegi.

Mr. Edwin Dande remains the Managing Director of the Asset Management Company, with the task of expanding the business through launch of frontier markets fund, develop new generation products, capacity enhancement, branding and marketing.

Regionally, David Kuria continues in his role as the Chief Executive Officer/Principal Officer of Britam Insurance Uganda, the company’s newest establishment. He will be responsible for growing the business in Uganda, which has limited insurance penetration, by developing tailor made products suitable for the Ugandan market and increasing the market share of the company in that market
