Joseph Warungu is a Knight International Journalism Fellow, who led the launch of an Africa-wide storytelling contest to encourage better coverage of Africa’s growth, development, health and quality of life. Just before he accepted his Knight Fellowship, Joseph Warungu was the head of the BBC’s African News and Current Affairs department. There, he was responsible for the daily flagship news programmes "Focus on Africa" and "Network Africa," and oversaw a team of over 60 reporters across Africa as well as production staff in London. He was also Editor-in-Chief of the quarterly BBC Focus on Africa magazine. He worked for BBC radio and TV for nearly 20 years.
