Kenya will play host for the Cloud East Africa Summit next month, an event aimed at bringing together technology firms and tech savvy indivuduals from the East African region.

The event to be held on September 7 will bring information technology professionals, industry executives and policymakers together who will discuss the rapidly evolving cloud sourcing business and how east African nations can tap it to transform their economies.

“Building successful cloud architecture comprises diverse elements that have to work together, despite having their own complexities. Cloud computing is revolutionizing the manner in which IT and business services are being delivered and managed,” Kinetic Events, a South African events organizing company said in a statement.

It added with the modern technological advancement, enterprises run the risk of overestimating short-term effects, while underestimating the long-term benefits.

The Kenya ICT Board has partnered with Kinetic Events and the Kenya Information Technology and Outsourcing Society (KITOS) to organize the cloud computing summit.

Experts said modern businesses should invest in cloud sourcing to ease their work-load, boost competitiveness and expand their revenue streams.

“Cloud computing is becoming a highly competitive market, and cloud solution providers must deliver high quality, business grade services to differentiate themselves from other low cost commodity cloud providers within the industry,” it said.

The statement stressed optimum care must be maintained during the design and planning of the cloud service to ensure services can be delivered and managed cost-effectively and to high standard levels.

The summit will address operational challenges that have undermined growth of the nascent cloud computing industry in east Africa. Industry players will also discuss best practices that should be adopted to scale up cloud sourcing in business.

“The main summit agenda will be to provide a platform for expert led interactive debates to address topical industry issues. Industry focused workshops sessions will educate delegates on various solutions in delivering IT projects and services enabling business growth and innovation,” said the statement. (Xinhua)
