Why Obama dropped Michelle and kids from Kenya tour

US President Barack Obama’s family will not accompany him on his tour of Kenya, which begins tomorrow.

According to the Office of the President, senior adviser Ruth Kagia, Mrs Michelle Obama and her daughters, Malia and Sasha, will not be with Mr Obama during his first visit to Kenya as head of state.

State House did not give the reasons for their absence. One reason could be that the tour coincides with the beginning of the school term in the US and the girls have to attend school.

National Security adviser Susan Rice, Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker and other senior US Government officials will instead, join the President. President Obama is expected to arrive in Nairobi tomorrow evening. Journalists, secretaries, advisers and secret service agents will accompany him.
