President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to meet with US President Donald Trump when he visits the White House on August 27.
A statement issued by White House Spokesperson Sarah Sanders said the two leaders will explore ways to bolster trade and investment between the two countries, while strengthening security cooperation.
She said Kenya is a vital partner of the United States, and President Trump looks forward to discussing ways to broaden the strategic partnership based on our shared democratic values and mutual interests.
“President Donald J. Trump will welcome President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya to the White House on August 27, 2018. Kenya is a vital partner of the United States, and President Trump looks forward to discussing ways to broaden the strategic partnership based on our shared democratic values and mutual interests. The meeting between the two leaders will reaffirm the longstanding relationship between the United States and Kenya as a cornerstone of peace and stability in Africa and the broader Indo-Pacific region,” the White House spokesperson said.
“President Trump and President Kenyatta will explore ways to bolster trade and investment between the two countries, while strengthening security cooperation,” she added.
Acting State House spokesperson Kanze Dena, in an address from Mombasa where President Kenyatta is on a working tour, confirmed the meeting.
President Kenyatta first met with Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit at the Greek Theatre in Taomarina, Italy in May last year.
It will be a second meeting for President Kenyatta at the White House having first attended President Barack Obama’s US-African Leaders Summit in August 2014.
