A little over a week after the Ministry of Education released the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results, schools in Baringo County have compiled their average performance scores in the standardised tests, and we now have the list of best-performing schools in the region.

Perhaps more surprising is that the number one position was not claimed this time by a traditionally known high-performer, and the top five featured a mix of schools. The top achiever overall was Ossen Girls’ High School, with a mean score of 8.95. It outshone the historically excellent Baringo High School, which had 8.65 and followed closely at number two, while Sacho High took third place with 8.50.

Ranking fourth on the list, Moi Boys’ High School Kabartonjo was also floored by the national girls’ school in Baringo North, having achieved an average mean grade of 8.34.

In terms of candidates’ grade distribution, Baringo High School stood out. Among the top schools in Baringo, it was the only one with students scoring straight A grades. Kemboi Hosea, Peter Gitau, Kipkoech Kelvin, and Enock Mibei earned A plains, ranking among the top KCSE performers nationally.

While Ossen Girls had 64 students with A-, Baringo High School had 28, and Moi Boys’ High School Kabartonjo managed only three. Kabarnet Boys High School, which had 12 A- grades, unfortunately, missed the top ten, finishing with a mean score of 7.39. Despite this, it showed significant improvement from its 6.56 mean score in 2023.

Regarding university transition rates, the top four schools (excluding Sacho) recorded impressive numbers. Ossen Girls’, Baringo High, and Moi Boys Kabartonjo had 265 out of 273, 249 out of 269, and 238 out of 246 students, respectively, achieving C+ and above.
