Launched in March 2023, Radio 47 is merely two years old in the Kenyan media scene – The radio industry, to be specific.

But contrary to the perceptions that radio broadcasting is an ‘ancient’ means of disseminating information, topped by social media, generally the internet, and other forms of online media, this radio station has grown to be one of the most popular radio stations in Kenya within a very short time.

Hardly three months after going live on air, the listener-supported Radio 47 had already scooped a Bronze at the 6th edition of Kuza Broadcasting Awards by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) on June 16, 2023:

At the star-studded event themed “Shaping the Future of Broadcasting: Toward A Creative Economy,” aimed to recognize and fete excellence in broadcasting, Radio 47 won the Bronze after coming third in Kenya’s favourite radio category.

Its sister station, however, visual, TV47, won in the commercial FTA (Free to Air) TV category at that awards ceremony, whose winners were based on consumer feedback as voting was open to the public.
