NTV News Anchor Larry Madowo pulled a first one in TV broadcasting yesterday when he briefly presented a talkshow on rival station KTN.
Mr Madowo, who also hosts The Trend show on NTV, held brief for Jeff Koinange on JK Live as the veteran TV host sorted out an issue with law enforcers who had arrested him for contempt of court.
“The first time ever on Kenyan TV that a presenter has hosted a competitor’s show,” Mr Modowo said on his Facebook page today. “It was fun sitting in for Jeff Koinange on the bench as he was a guest of the state. That was television gold, breaking all the rules.”
In a clever marketing coup, Mr Madowo even used the show to promote NTV and The Trend show among KTN viewers who watched the Jeff Koinange Live show last evening.
The move has excited Madowo’s fans on social media. Said Eddie Edgar: “I think Larry Madowo has been a guy of many firsts…but hosting a talkshow on a rival station was equal to Collins Injera’s 200th try. We can allow Larry Madowo to sign an autograph on the lapel mic right?
It’s not clear why Mr Koinange chose an NTV talkshow host to sit in for him instead of picking from within the KTN family. Perhaps it was also a marketing stunt for JK Live in keeping with its unconventional model.
