A County Deputy Governor has reportedly passéd away while boarding a Kenya Airways plane from Nairobi to Mombasa. In a statement released by Kenya Airways, the official developed breathing difficulties just after boarding the plane.

Kenya Airways did not disclose the identity of the person though it is understood to be a deputy governor from the Rift Valley.

“Kenya Airways PLC (KQ) regrets to announce that a passenger developed breathing difficulties this evening while boarding KQ 612 that was scheduled to depart for Mombasa at 1900hrs,” it reads.

The official dìed while heading to the Governor’s induction in Mombasa. “The passenger was pronounced dèad by medical personnel at JKIA while the aircraft was still on ground,” KQ said in a statement.

The deputy governor was pronounced dead by the medical personnel before the plane took off. KQ said the JKIA health and security agencies are handling the matter. KQ has passed their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

This is the third case over the past four weeks. The carrier had earlier this month confirmed that a passenger aboard one of its flights to New York from Nairobi passéd away, the second such incídent to be reported in a span of nine days.

Last month, it had reported another incìdent where a passenger díed aboard one of its flights from New York to Nairobi.

According to the airline, the passenger developed breathing difficulties seven hours after the plane had taken off from New York. A family spokesman said he had a history of diabetes.
